Infiniti is preparing to enter a new market segment with the launch of the Infiniti JX crossover, a 7-seater luxury model. The crossover’s exterior design will follow along the lines of the Infiniti Essence Concept revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and the interior will feature the next generation of Infiniti’s telematics and infotainment technology.

The all-new Infiniti JX is the 7-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now," said Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas.

The hype surrounding the Infiniti JX Concept centered on the assertion that it would bring some much-needed spice to an otherwise bland 7-passenger, luxury crossover market.

"The three-row luxury crossover segment is one of the fastest growing among all luxury vehicle segments, providing a huge opportunity for Infiniti," explained Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore.

The crossover comes with three rows of seats with the 2nd row seat designed to tilt and slide forward providing exceptionally easy 3rd row access. Other technological features added to the Infiniti JX Concept include a 14-speaker Bose Studio Surround sound system with Waveguide bass technology, an advanced Infiniti Connection Telematics system that automatically syncs the owner’s calendar with GPS responsibilities, and the new Infiniti Personal

We appreciate Infiniti’s forthrightness in announcing a sixth model for the American market. The company is using the occasion of the New York auto show to tease us with a sketch of the seven-passenger JX crossover, while a concept will appear at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August and the production version will bow at the L.A. auto show this November. (That same kinky look was also used on Infiniti’s too-hot-for-production Essence concept.) Muscular fenders and flowing body lines match the rest of Infiniti’s current lineup, save for the more blocky QX56.

There’s no official word on what will motivate the Infiniti JX, but trademark filings we uncovered last summer provide some hints. Infiniti has secured the rights to the JX20, JX25, JX25h, and JX30 badges, suggesting a lineup that could include four-cylinders, V-6s, and a hybrid.

After a slow striptease on Facebook, the Infiniti JX concept, a preview of the 2013 Infiniti JX due out in the spring, made its world debut on Thursday at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The production version of the seven-passenger 2013 Infiniti JX will debut in November at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The seven-passenger luxury crossover is inspired by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept. Infiniti predicts that the Infiniti JX will offer "class-leading roominess," including a second-row seat that tilts and slides forward.

The rollout of the JX concept marks the end of the Facebook striptease, but Infiniti today launched the Infiniti JX concept "Power of 7" Challenge on Facebook. More information is available on Infiniti's Facebook page.
