Available in three-door and five-door models, the 2011 Toyota Yaris hatchback is one out of the latest crop of small cars and offers outstanding gas mileage along with some very appealing extras that ensure passenger and driver comfort. Poor acceleration and limited storage space may make the Yaris less attractive for performance-minded drivers and families with growing children; on the whole, however, this subcompact Yaris hatchback provides exactly what buyers need and want in a small economy vehicle.
The Toyota Yaris hatchback comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission and available four-speed automatic. There’s a Yaris for everyone, no matter if you prefer a super-compact yet super-practical hatchback or a more traditional, conservative four-door sedan (because you can't live without a trunk!).Competitors include the Ford Fiesta, Kia Rio, Nissan Versa and Hyundai Accent, among others.

the base level Yaris is available in both a three-door and five-door configurations and includes air conditioning and steel wheels as standard equipment. Details:
Engine: 1.5-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder
Horsepower & Torque: 106 hp/103 lb-ft
Transmission: FWD five-speed manual, optional four-speed automatic
Fuel Economy: 29/36
Base MSRP: $13,155
The L trim level includes a fairly high level of standard equipment electric power steering, power-assisted ventilated front disc brakes, power door locks and USB connectivity. The top-dog of the Yaris family is the SE, which Toyota bills to be sport-tuned.The SE features both front and rear disc brakes, with the front disc nearly an inch larger in diameter than L and LE versions.
The leather-trimmed tilt three-spoke steering wheel includes audio controls and standard cruise control. Exclusive sports seats help add shoulder-level support for more comfort and control. The Yaris SE also includes a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and four-way adjustable passenger seat with sport fabric trim.
Yaris L models feature a one-piece folding rear seat, while LE and SE editions include a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat
Starting with nine standard airbags, the Yaris hatchback offers an impressive array of safety features. Standard driver and front-passenger dual-stage airbags are complemented by front-seat mounted side airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. As with all Toyota vehicles, the Yaris features Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Brake Assist. The Yaris also features Smart Stop Technology, Toyota’s brake-override system, as standard.
Finally, the Yaris hatchback also includes Toyota’s Advanced Whiplash Injury-Lessening (WIL) front-seat structure.
