A Mercedes-Benz S-Saoutchik body receives at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the title of "Best of Show". The vehicle with a "torpedo" body including a flat windshield, designed by French coachbuilder Jacques Saoutchik liked the judges so much that they are the most beautiful car of the prestigious event voted.

The Mercedes-Benz Classic Archive can provide information about the winning vehicle. It was originally from the Mercedes-Benz Comp. Inc., New York, for Charles Levine, New York, ordered. On 2 August 1928, the chassis was delivered to Saoutchik in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. The company manufactured and installed the body of a two-seat sports car and put the then Daimler-Benz AG in December 1928 to 72,327.25 francs (the equivalent of 11,572.35 Reichsmark) into account. The exact delivery date is not documented, but presumably the vehicle was handed over in December 1928.

Before it now at Pebble Beach won over the judges, there were the actual owners Judy and Paul Andrews, White Settlement, Texas / USA, lavishly restored. Previously, the car was stored around 30.

The Mercedes-Benz S - with reference to its displacement of 6.8 liters, sometimes referred to as Type 680 S - was published in 1927 as a further development of the Mercedes-Benz super sports car model K. He founded the legendary family of heavy supercharged cars, which also in 1928 published SS and SSK belong. They dominated the race for years, but were to buy as normal road vehicles. All vehicles in the series offer a six-cylinder in-line engine with supercharger boost performance. Contributes to the high performance and the dual ignition - two spark plugs per cylinder, one with battery ignition, the other is powered by high-voltage magneto ignition.
