Available only as a hatchback, it starts at nearly $3,200 more than the Aveo5, the Aveo hatchback option. The base Fit also includes standard safety features like side-curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes – which are unavailable in the base Aveo.

Base Versa sedans are available for $9,990, or nearly $1,200 less than a base Chevy Aveo. Many used cars also make better choices than the Aveo.

If you can’t drive stick, want air-conditioning or need power windows and door locks, then the Aveo LS isn’t the right car for you. The Chevy Aveo is also available as a sedan and hatchback called the Aveo5.

In government crash tests, the 2011 Chevy Aveo sedan earned a top five-star rating for the driver and four stars for the passenger in frontal impacts. IIHS side-impact testing resulted in the second-lowest "Marginal" score.

Both the sedan and Aveo5 hatchback feature a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that allows for the transport of longer items. Contrary to our customary recommendation to choose a manual transmission in this segment, the Aveo automatic seems to be the better choice.
