Volvo Car Corporation is introducing the latest technology investment results, titled Animal Detection System.

Animal Detection System will be applied in the S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 within the next few years. ADS uses the same radar with Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake.

This project was created to develop a safety system that reduces the risk of collisions with wild animals. ADSs to be part of the vision 2020 Volvo Car Corporation - none of which have suffered serious injury or death in any Volvo new car.

"This system consists of two parts - a sensor radar and infra-red cameras that can record the traffic situation," said Andreas Eidehall, an expert on safety systems VCC. "Most of collisions with wild animals occur at dawn, dusk and during the dark winter, is important for the system to function well in these conditions."

The camera monitors the road ahead and if an animal is within range, the system will warn the driver through the sounds. If the driver does not react, then automatically brakes work.

In developing the VCC team 'play' to a safari park in the evening to teach the system to recognize a variety of wild animals. Their car runs quietly in the back of a truck that dropped food to attract animals.

In Sweden, every year about 4000 accidents involving wild animals. "Collisions involving large animals potentially injuring occupant cabin because they are thrown into a car windshield," explained Andrew.
