Some might recall Chevy’s Beat concept of 2007, which is the predecessor to the Chevy Spark. The Beat was part of a trio of small concept cars that Chevy used to determine which small car buyers like best.

Details are slim at this point, but the Beat was powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and powers the front wheels.

Chevrolet officially unveiled its North America version of the upcoming Chevy Spark compact car today at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Sales will start in Europe featuring 1.0-liter 66 horsepower and 1.2-liter 78 horsepower 16-valve four-cylinder double overhead camshaft gasoline engines, delivering excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions.

Depending on global markets, safety equipment includes driver and passenger front air bags, front side airbags, roof rail head curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control. Spark has been developed and is expected to achieve high crash test ratings.

Chevrolet has revealed the Chevy Spark ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. Not much was lost in the transition from Beat to Spark. In fact, the car gained two well-hidden rear doors.

The Chevy Spark is the international replacement for Daewoo Matiz. Chevrolet seems to have found its way with small cars like the Chevy Spark, Cruze and Volt.
