Hyundai’s all-new small car known until now by its codename HA will be called Eon. Hyundai Eon, which means an 'indefinitely long period of time' suggests that this car, which is likely to replace the 13-year old Santro, is slated for a long innings in India too.

Powered by a small 814cc petrol engine, Eon small car will take on the highest selling car in India, Maruti Suzuki Alto. Hyundai Eon will be priced between Rs 3.2 lacs to Rs 3.5 lacs which is approximately Rs 20,000 lesser than the cheapest Hyundai car currently available in India (Santro). This brings Hyundai Eon in the price range of Maruti Alto.

From the front Hyundai Eon looks like the smaller Fluidic Verna. Exterior dimensions of Hyundai Eon are 3495 mm X 1625 mm X 1535 mm (L X B X H).

Hyundai Eon will have a decent combination of silver accents, black and beige plastic on dashboard. Hyundai Eon will offer an ARAI certified mileage of 21.1 kmpl which is more than Maruti Alto offers (20.2 kmpl).

The front fiasco has a shade of the Hyundai’s hexagonal grille up front and eye catchy floodlights with the chrome.New car launches are determined on the basis of the long-term outlook on a market. "Eon is the best bet for Hyundai to increase sales after relatively sound success of its smaller cars like Santro," said a Mumbai-based auto analyst.

The wheelbase is similar to the likes of other small car contemporaries with measurement of 2380mm. The windscreen is on the steeper side and shorter as well.

The Hyundai Eon has a three-cylinder copy of the Santro IRDE engine. In terms of the road presence for a small car it seems to stand up and deliver quite well. The Eon is an eagle at chicanes. The alternator management system, light weight and efficient engine of the Hyundai Eon make the car have a petrol thirst for once in every 21.1kpl.
