Along with highly anticipated debut of the BRZ sports car, the new Subaru wagon hybrid concept teased for the Tokyo Motor Show 2011 kicked off at the end of this month.

Tourer Concept obtains an aggressive front end that has a slightly restyled version of the grille and lights a corner of Subaru's signature. Wagon concept, which goes by the name Advanced Tourer Concept is a follow-up to the original Tourer Concept 2009 Subaru Hybrid and once again demonstrates the technology of hybrid cars, is set to start production of its debut in 2013.

An evolution of the Hybrid Tourer Concept, Advanced Tourer Concept will get 1.6-liter 4-cylinder smaller, using both direct injection and turbo charging-, has been paired with an electric motor. Will save energy by using high-tech lithium ion batteries and the car also will feature regenerative braking? Subaru is targeting a 50 percent improvement in fuel economy than current models.

Under the hood is a glimpse into the future of Subaru powertrain line-up, because the company has downsized 2.0 and 2.5 liter boxer Turbo’s to make a cleaner and more efficient 1.6-liter turbo is mated to an electric motor. No official figures, but engineers claim the set-up can be adjusted to adjust the output of 262bhp 2.5-liter turbo

Other features include the latest drivers from Subaru's vision assist system, which relies on a camera based surveillance systems to alert drivers of objects in the near future. Expected to arrive in 2013, the car will be launched next BRZ sports car in Tokyo
