The German brand BMW plans to refresh its lin-up with a new M3 model, which will be available only in Coupe and Convertible models. The coupe version will follow later on and will probably be named M4 since the new 3 series based coupes and convertibles are rumored to get the 4 series name. Power is rumored to come from a turbo charged six cylinder engine this time, the unsure part is if there will be two , or three turbochargers.

Rumors circulating the internet suggested that BMW would drop the sedan body, as it would overlap with the M4 four-door coupe that’s also on the way. We still don’t know if the unit will be twin-turbo or a the rumored tri-turbo with the extra one being powered by electricity rather than exhaust gasses. Noticeable cosmetic changes over the 2013 BMW 3-Series sedan include bulging fenders, especially visible at the back, where the track has been widened.

BMW has been spotted testing a prototype version of the upcoming new BMW M3. The new 2012 BMW 3 Series hasn’t even been released but it hasn’t stopped BMW’s M division getting hold of the new model and starting work on the next BMW M3. BMW is set to release the sedan version first. Perhaps the most interesting aspect to the new M3 is the name, as international reports have indicated BMW might be going for a new variant naming system which could see the new two-door coupe and convertible models being named BMW 4 Series. A triple turbo variant is also rumoured.

The second possibility is said to be a twin-turbo V6 engine. The exit of the turbo would then blow into a larger secondary turbo.
